The choirs' tour includes public performances and exchanges with
students at various high schools along the tour route. In addition to
performances in Cleveland, the Behrend Choirs are also performing in
the Detroit area on Monday, May 16 and in Chicago on Wednesday, May 18.
Both ensembles perform under the direction of Dr. Jason Bishop, a
member of the college’s music faculty. The choirs were a featured
performer at the 2009 New York City Honor Chorus Festival, and in May
2010 performed Joseph Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass at Carnegie Hall.
The choirs will be performing the Fauré Requiem along with a wide
variety of repertoire ranging from spirituals, to contemporary French
works, to contemporary film music such as Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah"
from Shrek; the Chamber Singers are performing Beatles set ("All You
Need Is Love" and "Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da"), Samuel Barber's masterpiece
"Agnus Dei," originally written as "Adagio for Strings" and used in the
movie Platoon and many other films for its stunning poignant melody and
harmonic content. By request, the program will conclude with the
Penn State Alma Mater.
Penn State Behrend is a four-year and graduate college of Penn State
located on the shores of Lake Erie; the historic core of its 854-acre
campus was the summer home of Mary and Ernst Behrend, co-founder of
Hammermill Paper Company. Choir is the oldest of the college’s 110
student clubs and activities.
